Winter Solstice Candle Lighting Celebration

  • The Green Door Centre Bosham House, Main Road Bosham, Chichester PO18 8PJ (map)

The Winter Solstice is a sacred day. It’s the darkest day of the year, when we have the least daylight hours, and it begins the celebration of more and more light each day!

It is in the darkness that we can most see and appreciate the light, including our own. The contrast is what creates the magic. We cannot enjoy the light without also embracing the darkness.

Join us in a meditative time of quiet reflection to remember our loved ones in this world or the next, and appreciate all the love and joy they have brought to us. A time, too, to express our hopes and prayers for the year ahead whether on a personal or global level. Enjoy quiet music, a few readings from HT Hamblin, and an invitation to light a candle and dedicate its light to where it is most needed, silently or aloud.

Please reserve your place and select a donation, if any, below.

The candle lighting ceremony will be followed by a cheerful Christmas gathering with seasonal refreshments.

Please arrive at 11:30am for an 11:45am start.

You are invited to give meaning to each candle you light. Some examples are:

  • Special people in your life, such as family, friends and loved ones, who may have now passed or who are dealing with current challenges.

  • Difficult situations such as personal sickness and loss, political and environmental upheaval.

  • Dreams and wishes, including blessings for loved ones and the world, as well as a personal goal for the New Year.

As we go through the ceremony, we encourage you to leave no area of your life in darkness!

This event is free to attend, but do please register so that we know how many to expect. We welcome your donations as they enable us to run free and low-cost events. Click on the green button if you’d like to donate.

Light refreshments will be served at the end of the ceremony.

If you are unable to attend, but you would like to have a dedication read out during the ceremony, please download the dedication form and return it to us. (You can scan, send a photo or return by post) or email us.
